info
If you are a food vendor, there is a new requirement from the Durham County Health Department that went into effect on July 1, 2008. All food vendors must now have a permit to vend food and they will no longer inspect on the day of the festival. It is important to get your food setup approved in advance if you plan to participate at the festival.
Call 919-560-7817 and speak with health department inspectors. They can be reached easiest between 8 am - 9:30 am and between 3 pm - 5 pm Monday through Friday.
Phoenix Fest is a rare opportunity to experience the rich and diverse culture of Durham ’s African American community in one fun-filled day of food, music and fellowship. You can participate as a sponsor, vendor, parade entrant, talent entrant or volunteer -- and of course, as our guest at the festival. Expensive concert tickets and arena seats are out of reach for many people. Phoenix Fest brings the music to the people in a family-friendly setting in the heart of Durham ’s historic African American community on Fayetteville Street --free for all to enjoy.
Be a Sponsor
Thanks to the growing community of sponsors, Phoenix Fest entertained over 8,000 festival goers of all ages who enjoyed the sights and sounds of the annual Phoenix Fest. Not only did Phoenix Fest literally stop traffic on Fayetteville Street, it put sponsoring businesses at eye level with thousands of visitors, vendors and performers. With positive associations and goodwill, Phoenix Fest slowed down the pace so that sponsors’ messages were well received and remembered. Unlike 60 second media spots, people will remember the festival and sponsoring businesses all year long.
In addition to being great family fun, Phoenix Fest is a great opportunity for your company to get its message out to the community and create positive associations, goodwill and name recognition in a festive, relaxed atmosphere. Because the festival is free to the public, we need your support to pay for the stage, seating, lighting and electrical work for the musicians who donate their performances to the festival.
Thanks to our sponsors for supporting the mission of Phoenix Fest!

Be a Parade Entrant

Get in our parade! Join us in the 9 am triumphant march up Fayetteville Street to pay tribute to the ancestors who came before us and settled Hayti in the late 19th century. Share in the age-old cultural traditions of high stepping, drumming and marching as we commemorate the hard work, vision and enduring spirit of the elders who founded Hayti over 100 years ago. Be part of this year’s festival and showcase your business, church, social club or community organization in this year’s parade. Parade entry is free to sponsors and vendors and this means more advertising for you BEFORE the festival starts. Click on Phoenix Fest 2009 Registration Form. Parade entry for schools, civic groups, churches and non-profits groups is free.

Be A Volunteer
Phoenix Fest's volunteers often go unnoticed by the thousands of visitors who are understandably enjoying the great sights, sounds and tastes at the festival. But our volunteers are the real glue that plan, produce and hold the festival together moment-by-moment -- coordinating the entire day's activities from the early morning parade through the final cleanup. In fact, it's their charge to blend in and work with precision to ensure that you have a great time.
Phoenix Fest salutes its volunteers and their unselfish dedication to the spirit of the festival and the communitiy.
As the festival has grown over the years, so has the need for volunteers. If you’d like to volunteer for Phoenix Fest, click on Phoenix Fest 2009 Registration Form and check volunteer.
And as you enjoy again this festival each year, say thanks to our volunteer coordinators who help to make it all possible.
